and so it begins…

September 28, 2010

After hundreds of hours of research, purchasing, preparation, and packing-the day is here.

The day started off by our best friend Emily picking us up and taking us to the Nashville Airport. After arriving at LAX, we ate lunch and waited for early check-in. Now that the 35 and 45 lb backpacks are checked-carrying those around LA would have made for an interesting sight- we set out to experience LA (Ashley’s first time).

We are now sitting at a table on a sidewalk in the Grove. Our friend Ellen lived here last year and reccomended that we come here, so here we are.

The last of the thank-you notes are mailed-thanks to the post office in the Grove-and we are ready to bid adieu to the U S of A.

This is kind of crazy isn’t it?!?

Who would have thought a year ago that we would have found each other, marry, and be off to another country? God is SO GOOD! I think it is still going to be sinking in  the next few days as we realize that we are no longer near the people with whom we’ve grown and experienced life with. What a way to begin a new season of life. We get to take a year away, spend time with each other and the Lord, and learn how to be flexible, mobile, and love people unrelentlessly.

I have a sneaking feeling that when we come back we won’t be the same. That we’ll be better. More whole, more healed, and more in love with each other and God. We can’t wait to see the surprises He has in store for us!!

So here’s to life, its adventures and volatileness, and to safe travels!!

More from Middle Earth soon!
